Stage Curtains,
1994, acrylics
After staring at
stage curtains while in the audience waiting for a concert to begin, the curtains
took on a life of their own. Later I tried to capture that life in a painting,
but it was enormously unsuccessful. I still have this painting because I didn't
want to take it to Goodwill as I did with so many other of my paintings when I moved in 1990. I kept this one
because I wanted to reuse the canvas, to paint something else on it. Also, I thought that it was too awful to
even give to Goodwill or Salvation Army. It's now stuffed away in the back of a closet. I don't think even the spiders
would appreciate it, but it might scare them away. I've thought about redoing it by using a pallet knife because it
needs texture, that is, if I don't paint something else over it.
