Portrait of Friend Rick, 1962, pencil drawing

I enjoyed drawing portraits of friends from their high school pictures. Because I tended to be good at it, I was often asked by friends to draw a portrait of either themself or someone else. This portrait is of Rick Mattingly from his high school graduation photo.

Rick and I dated in high school but were more goofing around buddies than boyfriend/girlfriend. One of the best memories of Rick was forgetting our entrance on stage during a school play. We were paired as a 1920s flapper dancing couple. However, we were having so much fun goofing around between acts that we completely lost awareness of the time so missing our cue for the dancing scene.
