Boat with Lighthouse,
1958, pencil drawing
I drew this boat
with a lighthouse in 1958 when I was 12. I copied it from the back of a deck of playing
cards. I wrote the information on the back and titled it "Day on a Boat." My signature at the
bottom is covered by the frame, but it was "Frankie," which was one of my many nicnames (my last name
was Franklin). You can just see the top of the "F" peeking above the frame. I
made very fancy capital letters back then.
My mom kept it all of these years and gave it to me in the early 2000s with a bunch of other things she had saved of
mine. This drawing has been relatively well preserved! The home-made frame hasn't weathered too well, but it's charming
all the same. The image of this old drawing is good, too, thanks to being able to scan it directly versus finding it in
old photos, which is the typical way I've been able to find previous art work that I've done.
