Photos of my concerts

I held two concerts, AKA recitals. One was in 2000, and the other was in 2009 and again in 2010--which I'll explain below.

My 2000 concert, titled "Share the Joy, Anxst, and Tears of Love through Song," was given at the Palo Alto Art Center, Palo Alto, California, on September 10, 2000. I was so embroiled with so many things to put this concert together that I didn't even think about asking someone to take photos. Fortunately, the few photos I have were what a some family and friends happened to take randomly. Click here to view the 2000 photos.

My second concert, titled "Love's Sweet Drama," was actually held twice: one July 12, 2009, and the other September 12, 2010. Each time it was at the Le Petit Trianon Theater in San Jose, California. This happened because, 10 days before the 2009 concert was scheduled, I came down with a severe case of laryngitis. Because it was 10 days away, I was sure that I would get over it by the concert date. But I was wrong! It ultimately took more than 6 months to get over it!

As the concert date grew near, and I wasn't any better after having multiple accupuncture treatments and taking all kinds of alternative remedies and other drugs, it became too late to cancel because my out-of-town guests had already bought plane tickets and reserved hotel rooms. In a panic, I canceled the concert for all locals, and decided to hold a "faux" concert for those coming from out of town. To do this, I had to go through tape recordings of my rehearsals and make one tape of each piece in the order that I'd be singing them at the concert.

At the concert, a friend worked the tape deck, and I would lip sync each piece. Other than that, I performed as planned. For the after party, I had the caterer bring the food to my house for everyone to shmooze there.

After my voice recovered more than six months later, I began working again with my vocal coach for a few months and scheduled the concert for the local audience for September 12, 2010. This performance didn't go as well as it should have, however. The person responsible for setting up the after-party room didn't show up. I had no choice but to dash up to the clubhouse and set it all up, rush home and grab my makeup and dresses, then dash to the theater. Activity like this before a concert stresses the vocal chords, so there were high notes that were normally easy for me to sing, but twice, no voice came out! Also, I made a number of mistakes in the lyrics, which is something I rarely did.

For this concert, my vocal coach was supposed to be my pianist. But her carpel tunnel problem grew so bad that she had to stop playing the piano for months. So she contacted a pianist friend to ask if she would play for me, and this woman agreed.

The end!
